As we enter 2020, we hear more and more about New Year resolutions. Some very popular resolutions include working out, getting organised, saving money and taking better care of our health.
While these are all great resolutions and definitely worth making, it is rare that we hear a resolution about making dental health a priority in the New Year.
At Dr Sachdeva’s dental clinic, we believe one of the best resolutions that you can make is to take care of your teeth and we have a few suggestions as to how you can achieve that.
Dental Resolutions for 2020
Brush and floss regularly. This resolution is so simple to fulfil, and it has some of the greatest payoffs. Brush twice a day and floss at least once. But to get the most benefit, you have to do it correctly.
Feel free to check with Dr Sachdeva’s dental clinic to ensure your technique is good.
Stop all tobacco use. There is nothing more important a smoker can do to improve their oral and overall health besides quitting tobacco use.
Tobacco use increases the risk for both gum disease and oral cancer, and can also lead to stained teeth. Ask your dentist or hygienist for help in quitting smoking.
Visit your Wantirna South dentist regularly. It can be easy to put off dental care – other important things arise in your life, you need to save money, or sometimes you just forget. But forget or put dental visits off.
Working with your dentist you can keep your teeth, mouth, and smile in tiptop condition and save money in the future.
Cut back on sugar. A study from the U.K. finds that greatly reducing the amount of added sugar you eat can significantly lower your risk of dental decay.
For healthier teeth, the study authors recommend cutting the amount of added sugars to no more than 5 per cent, with a target goal of 3 per cent.
The easiest way to reduce sugar intake is to cut back the number of sugary foods you buy. You can also swap out other foods for foods high in sugar.
Drink sugar-free seltzer water instead of soda and if you absolutely have to have something sweet, consider chewing a piece of sugarless gum.
Get better-looking teeth. There are many ways to improve a smile including teeth whitening. Tobacco and some drinks can turn your teeth 50 unattractive shades of grey.
Laser teeth whitening can restore shine to your teeth.
Braces, crowns, and veneers can aid your ability to chew and also present a happier smile to the world.
There are many treatments to improve your smile and at Dr Sachdeva’s dental clinic, we would happy to discuss them with you.
